While in Michigan, CSC Correspondent Rick Weaver covered the Downriver Dream Cruise, one of the largest held every year in the Metro-Detroit area. It was a fourteen hour event that took place on Fort Street (a six lane boulevard) starting in Lincoln Park, and concluded at the Southgate-Riverview boarder some five miles away. This was one of those special events.There’s sooo many muscle cars, hot rods, and classics at this gathering, we’re able to fill our quota of our personal favorites. This sector continues to see steady investments in infrastructure and quality assurance to meet its growing demands.

The tour purchasing rate for disembarked passengers is 60 percent, which compares favorably with the Caribbean average of 35 percent. This newly opened docking port in southern Stann Creek District currently caters only for Norwegian Cruise Line passengers. Passengers can take a tender for one of the many mainland excursions or enjoy the island, which features a large pool, beach, zip-lining, water sports, an enclosed nature area with birds and butterflies, bars and a variety of eateries. (no flags means we either haven’t been there yet, or we need to go again to make a determination). We saw a bunch of Turbo Regals and plenty of Gbody cars (our normal requirement [wishful thinkings] when attending car shows).

The Fort Street Cruise is an annual event which takes place through several Downriver communities. People with vintage, classic, custom, modern muscle, exotics, tuners, tricked-out, or otherwise interesting cars cruise through the main thoroughfare of Fort St (M-85). The cruise stretches between Southfield Rd. and Sibley Rd, passing through Lincoln Park, Southgate, Wyandotte, and Riverview.

People lined the streets all along the way to watch and cheer for their friends and favorite vehicles. Hundreds of machines on wheels ranging from off road trucks to motorcycles attended the event. Despite threats of all day rains preceded by flooding the night before the turnout was still large, and a good time was had by all. An official event for most of its history, each event held since 2017 has been unofficial as a result of increasing expenses incurred and lack of profits by each of the communities along the cruise route. The 2017 and 2018 events had another factor, in the form of increased traffic along Fort Street due to a prolonged partial closure of Interstate 75, which parallels Fort Street in the Downriver area, during those two years. Although I-75 had since fully reopened by the time of the 2019 edition, the event remains unofficial, and this status has allowed the 2020 edition to continue to move forward in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fort Street Cruise is an annual event that takes place through several Downriver communities. Many cars and crowds will also gather the evening before for an unofficial kickoff. As part of its continuous efforts to foster the development of our dynamic tourism industry and keep stakeholders duly informed, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Cruise App. The App is designed to provide stakeholders with up to date information on the cruise ship schedule for the day, programmed cruise ship calls on Belize in the upcoming year as well as notification on cruise ship calls or cancellations.
